Attic Insulation

Jersey City Insulation - Attic Insulation

If you want to save on energy bills as well as making your home more comfortable to be in year round, you should consider insulating your attic or renewing your attic insulation. The long track record of our insulation installing teams at Jersey City has given them the expertise and experience to properly insulate any attic space.

In order to insulate an attic properly, there are two steps - air sealing and insulation.

Air Sealing: Air sealing is all about preventing air flowing between the rooms of a house and the attic. Cold air tends to flow down from an attic, and the warm air in the house rises to the attic, where it flows to the outside. Unless the leaks between rooms and an attic are sealed, the cooling and heating systems in the house have to work harder to keep the right temperature. Typically air leaks occur around plumbing pipes, roof soffits, light boxes and entry hatches in the attic.  Even without insulation. sealing these leaks will greatly improve the temperature stability in the house and result in substantial energy savings.

Insulation: Once the attic has been air sealed, to get the best energy saving benefits insulation should also be installed. This can be in the form of blown-in fiberglass insulation, spray foam insulation or cellulose insulation. Each has its advantages and we will advise each homeowner on the type of insulation that is right for their situation.

  • Cellulose Insulation - Possibly one of the most common insulation materials, cellulose insulation is a great way to go to make your home more comfortable and add to insulation that you already have installed.  Cellulose insulation would be installed after sealing any air leaks. It's made of recycled newsprint which is treated with safe chemicals to resist fire, insects and mold.

  • Spray Foam Insulation - Spray foam is a popular form of insulation currently. It is a form of polyurethane foam that has the advantage of sealing any air leaks and also insulating at the same time. This can save time in installation and be the right solution depending on the size and accessibility of the whole of the attic space.  Jersey City Insulation is able to install different kinds of spray foam insulation to suit particular attic sizes and types.

  • Fiberglass Insulation - We will typically use fiberglass insulation in circumstances where we are installing all new insulation. This is because, after air leaks have been sealed, fiberglass is a very effective and versatile insulation material. In houses which already have some insulation materials in the attic, fiberglass insulation can be used to increase the insulation strength (or R-value) of the insulation.
